STUDY ON INTEGRATED PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM IN THE KLANG VALLEY

Realising the importance of an efficient public transport system in enhancing the economic and business growth of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur and its Klang Valley conurbation, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (SPNB) has embarked on this public transport study for Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley.

The study area with an estimated total population of 6.6 million (Year 2009) is in urgent need for the development of an integrated transport system where its various public transport modes can operate with optimal connectivity and work coherently.  Furthermore, the provision of an effective and efficient public transport network is anticipated to serve the social needs of the study area by improving the overall mobility and accessibility.

The study will analyse and recommend measures to improve the level of service of the public transport mode by analysing the overall transit operations which include the optimization of the planning and design of the routing system, meeting the demands and needs of the riding public or the potential riders of the service, ascertaining measures to optimize operations in terms of routing, fares and schedules and recommend design and location of terminals which are service effective and pedestrian oriented.
